New Work in Global Justice Book Talk
On April 17, 2024, Dr. Aaron Rosenberg (King’s College, London) discussed his book Scale, Crisis, and the Modern Novel: Extreme Measures (Cambridge UP, 2023), which explores how developments in literary form relate to environmental and ecological issues.
Dr. Rosenberg examined how authors writing at the turn of the twentieth century developed experimental strategies and techniques for expanding the spatial and temporal range of the novel to accommodate growing concerns about deep time, evolution, globalization, and extinction.
The event was organized and moderated by Prof. Nathan Hensley as part of a working group on “The Unfinished Nineteenth Century: Environment, Race, Culture”.
