“What Makes Us Human in the Age of AI?” Series
Georgetown Humanities, in collaboration with the Center for Digital Ethics, launched the interdisciplinary event series “What Makes Us Human in the Age of AI?”. The purpose of this ongoing initiative is to foster exchanges across departments on the role of intrinsically human attributes and of the humanities in facing the challenges of the latest digital and technological revolution.
On February 8, 2024, in “Human Creativity in an AI World,” Professors Laura DeNardis (Director of the Georgetown Center for Digital Ethics and Professor and Endowed Chair in Technology, Ethics, and Society) and Susanna Lee (Professor and Chair in the Department of French and Francophone Studies, and Convenor of the Faculty of Literatures, Cultures, and Language Studies) engaged with questions about the creative process and the nature of authorship as the presence of AI is becoming increasingly pervasive.
On April 8, 2024, Professor Cal Newport (Professor and Founding Member of the Center for Digital Ethics) discussed his latest book Slow Productivity: The Lost Art of Accomplishment Without Burnout, highlighting how to rehumanize work with the help of the wisdom and creativity of philosophers, writers, artists, and scientists.
